Wall Text:

The materials in this art piece are made of recycled materials, thread, and cyanotype liquid. Using recycled paper and cyanotype represents the coral and climate change aspects of this piece. The changing color of the cyanotype from green to dark blue shows the exposure of the sun to the paper. This is similar to the exposure of warm temperatures to coral which makes them lose their color. During this color-bleaching process, the coral is very susceptible to breaking, losing nutrients, and dying. Like the handmade paper, after allowing for the cyanotypes to dry on the surface, it becomes very brittle. Both of these materials are very delicate and fragile, and with the added warmth, it becomes brittle. This could not have been possible to achieve on a regular canvas or as a painting. By creating a handmade canvas allows for the message of the piece to expand. It is not a traditional painting as it uses the background materials and what is on the surface to convey the message of this piece.
